"My name is Pearl and I love you"

Natasha Khan a.k.a Bat For Lashes is a dream. So is her latest album, Two Suns. With her exotic look and sound, she is set to conquer the world.

Never before have I heard an album so captivating as this one. It sounds like the greatest fairytale out there. As romantic and spooky as it can get.

Not wanting to spoil it for you, I'm only going to recommend Siren Song. It's such an eerie and wonderful song.

Top '08

01. Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

What a surprise! This band and I have a beautiful history. But I guess they thought it was time for them to show the WORLD what they were capable of. Boy did they. They shattered all my expectations, only to make it the best album of the past couple of years. No, that was not exactly what I was expecting.. I never thought they'd make another song that I'd love more than Black Thumbnail (on Because of the Times). They sure did with the eerie, creeping, fantastic Closer. I think I nearly wet my pants of amazement when I first heard it. Plus, Use Somebody has become the anthem of my '08; we could all use someone, huh? I think they're the band of our generation.

No, you are not mistaken, I only have one band on my top. The one and only band that deserves to be up there, hence my decision not to talk about others.

Dirty Pretty Things no more

"It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things. It's been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again, but it is time for us to try new things. (not The Libertines). We are reluctant to give up touring but will give the last waltz everything. We have and are determined to go out as we came in, after which we all have other ventures to be getting on with and splendid future plans. Heartfelt thanks to all who made it what it was, much love and we'll see you on the road."

Sad, sad news. But I do look forward to any new stuff coming from Carl Barât and co.

The Wombats

The Wombats, at The Depot in Leuven. September 27th 2008

Other plans

September-November is filled with a couple of gigs I can't wait to go to!

I'm going to see the Wombats in September, I also wanted to catch the Constantines from Canadaaa, but it would be too much. Too bad.

Kaki King is next in order, September 29th. Must-see.

I'm also going to see Blood Red Shoes in Brussels, in October. I can't wait for that, they were so convincing at Pukkelpop. They're amazing.

Next one MIGHT be MGMT, I'm still unsure. It's in Ghent, which is kind of far from where I live. I could see them in Cologne in stead, but that's on the same day as the Kooks (who're playing in Düsseldorf then, and I reeeeeaaaally love the Kooks).

Finally, the Kooks, again.. end of November. I can't resist, they're a passion I fight hard for.

I heard Death Cab For Cutie were coming back to Belgium as well in November, but I don't think i'll go this time. They were awesome when I saw them last month, but I'm into different music atm. I might change my mind, who knows.

Pukkelpop Evidence 10: Bloc Party

Wow. They deserve a festival named completely after them. They deserve every honour one can get, just because they were SO SO SO good!

I was looking forward to this for months on end, and boy did they meet up to my expectations (and they were grand, I assure you).

Pukkelpop Evidence 9: Pigeon Detectives

They're always up for a party. Singer Matt Bowman is one hyper dude.. but they were gooddddd nonetheless!

Pukkelpop Evidence 8: Dirty Pretty Things

Dirty pretty things.. so true, that's all I'm saying.
